NMMU Business School, in collaboration with the Small
Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), assisted local co-operatives and
entrepreneurs throughout the Eastern Cape with an essential SARS and tax
briefing information session on 11 July 2012.
NMMU Business School and SEDA welcomed SARS representatives who made a
presentation around tax compliance, submissions and returns to entrepreneurs
and co-operatives.
“The Small Enterprise Development Agency is continually pursuing an admirable
mission to support and develop small enterprises, ensuring their growth and
sustainability,” said Linda Adams from NMMU Business School’s SMME and
Entrepreneurship division.
“The NMMU Business School is proud to be associated with SEDA and will continue
its support towards local entrepreneurship and development of the Eastern Cape
economy,” she said.
NMMU Business School Director, Professor Steve Burgess, added, “Outreach
activities such as this reflect the University’s 2020 Vision. We provide
services to hundreds of co-operatives from our walk-in Co-operative Development
Centre offices on the Missionvale Campus, thanks to generous support from the
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.”
“Growing recognition for the importance of micro-enterprise, social
entrepreneurship and co-operative business models is encouraging. There
is much to learn about how socially-networked organisations can achieve
financial sustainability while doing good in the community—we intend to play
our part.”
